First Step Towards Eco Living

"Buying Organic is beyond just keeping chemicals off your plate. It is a way that you can contribute to preserving the soil and protecting the environment for our future generation." I have been interested to move towards a more organic eco living and am taking baby steps to a healthier green living. I guess there is always a phase in life where we become more health conscious and a sudden realization of the role we play in preserving the creations of mother nature. What can we do to make ourselves healthier? We cannot alter our genes, but there is much within our control that can have an impact on our health and preserving the environment. It is definitely not easy (nor cheap), but every little step counts.
Hubs have the tendency of leaving water bottles in the car. Of course, we all have this concern about cheap plastics leaching BPA into the water, and so we switched to better more 'expensive' plastics and then to aluminium. But still I wasn't entirely happy about him leaving tupperwares in the car, and to my delight, I found this cute Sun Ray water container made from ceramic (by Claytan). No more problem with heat and it also non-reactive with fruit juices.
I have also bought a packet of Italian Alce Nero organic pasta made of semolina of durum wheat. Hubs sneakily added in 2 boxes of expensive organic chocolates (Macadamia and Almonds) into the shopping cart. Anyhow, these organic chocs are yummy-licious... not too sweet, just nice and smooth.
I have been looking for 100% cotton tampons and finally found one. The Natracare tampons are certified organic 100% cotton, are made from only natural materials that are totally chlorine-free (TCF) and have no additives. Natracare also produces a wide range of other natural feminine hygiene products.
All the above can be purchased at a comprehensive one stop organic shop:

Wordle Art

Artsy piece with places, dates and names that bring meaning to our life. I am contemplating of printing it out and framing it as an art decor with some personal touch.

Curtain Call

I am trying to improve on our dining area. So step 1 was to re-do the window treatment. The first is a "Before" pic (I recruited semi-nude hubby to contribute some elbow grease ;)). The miserable short curtain does not do justice to the area. The door to the left leads to the utility area, which puts the window panels in an awkward asymmetrical position.
Before
Now, the "After" pic. By just elevating height of the curtain rod and expanding the curtain width to cover the door, I now created a more symmetrical room with an illusion of higher ceiling.
After
First part completed. If only the perfect marble table could arrive sooner.....

I got Labelled

Labelling and tagging has been my latest craze to snazz up and add fun to the kitchen. With some white twine and artsy paper, it is so simple yet it doesnt fail to brighten up the kitch. Besides, hubs no longer have an excuse of not knowing what is in the jar ;). Here's some pic of my "Beverage Counter" (my amateurish shot from Hub's Nikon D80...please do not judge). And here's some from the pantry cabinet.

Missing "Add a Gadget" Feature

I encountered a puzzling and annoying problem with the "Add a Gadget" feature not showing up in the Layout screen of my Blogspot blog. After some head scratching time and shouting out to my dear friend (meimeizoe) for help I eventually found the solution. For anyone who faced the same problem out there, all you need to do is to clear your browser's Cache. Once this is done, refresh the browser, keep your fingers cross, do a hula dance, sprinkle some star dust and the "Add a Gadget" feature will miraculously re-appear.

Paint me pretty

I am very much into thrifty home improvements (aka cheap home improvements, preferably using recycled materials). I have gotten this unused horrid old photoframe from my brother. And transformed it into this shabby chic new frame. Nothing that two coats of glossy white paint can't do.
And taaadaaa.... the final result of the newly framed picture on our picture wall. Aint it pretty? ;) Note my parent's 1978 wedding photo in the background.
Cost break down:
Photoframe: Free (Contribution from Alwyn)
Paint: Free (Leftoever from earlier projects)
Score! A jiffy transformation at zero cost.
